As 2018 draws to a close, our teams are celebrating a successful year. The dry summer created additional challenges but we worked hard to set the farm up for Harvest 2019. Over 4,000 acres have been drilled, and winter crops are now successfully established. The arable ground is based around a wide rotation of crops. These include winter wheat and cover crops, which enhance crop production, spread business risk and boost biodiversity.

Spring into action
After a frosty start to the year, Spring has brought some welcome sunshine to warm things up on the farm. We have been busy cultivating our crops and the first fruits are coming along nicely. We have had great success using our tabletop growing systems and polytunnels. These innovative systems enable us to nurture our strawberry plants all year round. The tables also improve working conditions for our teams who do not need to bend down when tending to the plants or picking produce.
Alongside supplying soft fruit, E C Drummond also Read More
As the first official month of Autumn, September has seen our staff as busy as ever with harvest across 10,000 hectares of farmland. The E C Drummond farm is split three ways between arable, soft fruit and poultry, and arable definitely takes centre stage each Autumn. Our Hampshire and Herefordshire farms grow wheat, barley and oilseed rape alongside our first-class potatoes. Typical British weather has hit many arable crops hard, however, our harvesting team have worked tirelessly to protect and bring in the best crop yield we possibly can.
