Strawberries are one of our main crops here at E C Drummond, and there has never been a better time to indulge in this super fruit. As consumers become increasingly aware of the need to eat better quality food, our teams strive to cultivate the very best, nutritionally dense strawberries. The fruits themselves are a rich source of vitamins C and K as well as providing a good dose of fibre, folic acid, manganese and potassium. We go to great lengths to ensure that our strawberries are the highest quality possible, both in terms of taste and nutritional value. Solid start

The E C Drummond farms benefits from an innovative table top growing system which enables us to grow strawberries all year round.

The planting season starts with in depth soil analysis to ensure that the seedlings have the best possible environment in which to grow. Our grow bags are incorporated into the table top system which keeps our vulnerable plants and fruits safe from wild animals, and also provides our workers with a more comfortable cultivating and picking position.

Perfectly picked

When our fruits are ready, we invest in large teams of expert pickers to bring in the harvest. Our plants are checked on a daily basis for fruit, and fruits will only be picked when they are at their optimum to ensure consistent size and quality. Once picked, our soft fruits are taken straight to our purpose-built packhouse, ready for packing.

From plant to punnet

When they arrive in the packhouse, our strawberry fruits are rapidly cooled to maintain freshness. We process over 8,400 punnets of soft fruit per hour during the harvest season, which are then checked, weighed and labelled ready to be dispatched to the supermarket the very same day.
